These unsightly stains are caused by a living organism known as Gloeocapsa Magma which thrives in shaded areas of your roof that receive less sunlight, creating the perfect conditions for its growth.

To delve deeper, this organism is actually a type of cyanobacteria. Once established, it can create an environment that supports various hazards, including lichen, mold, mildew, moss, and even ferns. Is this a concern? Absolutely! Beyond being unsightly this algae has roots that can dislodge the protective granules of your shingles, shortening their lifespan. The moisture-retaining “petri dish" effect on your roof keeps shingles damp, leading to premature failure.

Furthermore, all roofing materials, whether tile or metal, possess reflective properties. Algae can diminish this reflectivity, causing your roof to heat and negatively affecting your home's energy efficiency.

We utilize "no pressure"  softwash cleaning approach for roof shingles, as the granules are essential for protection. High-pressure cleaning can strip these granules away, significantly reducing the lifespan of your roof. Our soft washing technique employs a blend of algaecides, fungicides, and soaps to eliminate algae at source, following the guidelines set forth by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association. TPO Membranes are also known by several names including membrane, vinyl, flat roofs and rubber roofs.  These flat roofs are typically found on commercial buildings. Believe it or not, these roofs actually need a bit of maintenance.  Some manufacturers actually require annual cleaning of these membranes to keep warranties intact.

Should repairs be required, typically these roof will need to be cleaned prior to repair work to help both detect leak areas as well at have clean areas to work with.

Additionally, if the roof is home to mechanical equipment, the surface can become slippery for technicians and maintenance personnel to walk on.

Finally, these TPO membrane roofs are energy efficient, as long as the reflectivity is maintained.  When a membrane gets dirty, the energy efficiency plummets. in fact according to the Coated Fabrics and Film Association a dirty membrane roof will impact the energy efficiency if the roof. This can lead to much higher utility bills and greater heat transference.
